Last Monday, Bill and I were at North Memorial in Maple Grove while he was having a test. As I waited, my niece called and said my mom had been taken to the Hospital by ambulance. She didn’t have anything more than that.
After Bill’s appointment, we drove straight to North Memorial in Robbinsdale. We learned that mom had a blood clot in her heart. She’s home now but she has a long road to recovery ahead of her.
Through this God has been showing and teaching me many things:
- Live one day at a time; sometimes one moment at a time.
- Turn everything over to Him because I’m not in control.
- He gives us the strength and grace we need for today – our “daily bread”.
- Each moment is precious and not to take anything for granted.
- The love He has for His children, and no matter how old we are – we’re still His children.
- The importance of family and friends and the difference they make in our lives.
- The reality of “we can make plans, but He directs our steps”
- Ultimately, He’s in control. And I am not.
I’ll end with an unexpected “heart-snapshot”.
One of the cool things He showed me is the complex and unique way He’s created us. When the technician was doing an ultrasound of mom’s heart, I watched the screen. At one point the image looked like a little cone head person (you can tell I’m a 70’s SNL fan ) there was more than one, but I focused on this one little cone head person; who was praising God! It was kind of like jumping jacks. It would raise its hands in praise and then back down to touch the other cone head person’s hand. I imagine I was really watching her heart pumping and the valves letting the blood flow by and then blocking it again. But to me, in that moment all I could see was a tiny worshiper.
It made me think of Psalm 150:6: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Even our hearts, with every beat, declare His handiwork. What an amazing Creator we serve.
